Private Training
Dogs instinctively pull when they are excited and wish to get closer to their goal more quickly. A dog constantly pulling is draining, and stressful and allowing a dog to pull us along reinforces this behaviour. If you have a big and strong dog, pulling you along can be dangerous. Pulling too hard on a collar can also damage a dog’s trachea, neck, nerves and joints.
So teaching loose leash walking is essential. One of the greatest benefits is that it increases attentiveness and self-control in your dog.
Part of teaching loose leash walking is to motivate your dog to engage and connect with you. This creates a harmonious bond as your goals are aligned and your dog understands better what you want. It takes time and patience but you will reap the benefits both in and out of the home, with a more contented dog which is calmer, quieter, more cooperative, happier and less reactive.
